정식명칭은 국립 조르주 퐁피두 예술 문화센터(centre national d’art et de culture Georges-Pompidou). 너비 166m, 안길이 60m, 높이 42m. 소재지구의 명칭을 따서 보부르센터라고 통칭되기도 한다. 도서관(BPI), 공업창작센터(CCI), 음악·음향의 탐구와 조정 연구소(IRCAM), 파리국립근대미술관(MNAM) 등이 있으며, 이 센터의 창설에 힘을 기울인 대통령 G.퐁피두의 이름을 붙여 1977년에 개관하였다. 설계 공모를 통해 이탈리아인 R.피아노와 영국인 R.로저스의 공동설계가 채택되었다. 거대한 철골 트러스 속에 여러 시설을 위한 자리가 마련되어 있으며, 설비 배관이 적색과 청색의 원색으로 칠해져 있다. '문화의 공장'이라고 할 수 있는 대담한 이미지와 자유롭게 내부의 변경이 가능한 설계가 파리건축계에 충격을 주었다. 견학자의 70%는 문화시설을 이용하지 않고 건물 내부를 보는 것만으로도 만족해 한다고 한다.

Centre Georges Pompidou is a complex in the Beaubourg area of the IVe arrondissement of Paris, near Les Halles and the Marais. It houses the Bibliothèque publique d'information, a public library, the Musée National d'Art Moderne, and IRCAM, a centre for music and acoustic research. The building was designed by the architects Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers and Sue Rogers and engineers Peter Rice and Edmund Happold, whose design was not popular at first. However, under the guidance of its first director, Pontus Hultén, it quickly became a noted attraction in Paris. The Pompidou 'revolutionized museums,' the Pritzker jury said, 'transforming what had once been elite monuments into popular places of social and cultural exchange, woven into the heart of the city. 후면부를 못 둘러봐서 조금 아쉽긴 했지만 정면의 강한 인상으로 후면부를 생각할 겨를이 없었다.
