The white villa that houses the Chabot Museum was designed in 1938 by architect G.W. Baas. Baas had worked for many years at the Rotterdam firm of Brinkman & Van der Vlugt that was responsible for buildings such as the Van Nelle factory, the Feijenoord football stadium and the neighbouring Sonneveld and Bouve villas in the Museumpark. L. Stokla took over the construction when Baas was appointed coordinator of the building of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. The villa was commissioned by the Kraaijeveld family as a private house. The roof in the original design consisted of a single, large roof garden. Molenaar & Van Winden was responsible for the renovation.
