The Beurs van Berlage is a building on the Damrak, in the center of Amsterdam. It was designed as a commodity exchange by architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage and constructed between 1896 and 1903. It influenced many modernist architects, in particular functionalists and the Amsterdam School. It is now used as a conference venue. The building is constructed of red brick, with an iron and glass roof and stone piers, lintels and corbels. Its entrance is under a large clock tower, while inside lie three large multi-story halls formerly used as trading floors, with offices and communal facilities grouped around them. The aim of the architect was to reject the styles of the past. To the modern eye, the design may still appear a little fussy, but at the time, most apparent were its sweeping planes and open plan interiors. It has stylistic similarities with some earlier buildings, for instance St Pancras station, but there the functional train shed was disguised by a neo-Gothic facade. On 2 February 2002 the civil ceremony of the wedding of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Máxima Zorreguieta took place in the Beurs van Berlage.

1903년에 완성된 건물은 네덜란드 근대 건축의 아버지로 부리는 헨드리크 베를라헤의 대표작이다. 지금은 박물관으로 이용되고 있으며 네덜란드 필하모닉의 본거지로서 콘서트로 열린다.

Bijenkorf는 암스테르담의 최고급백화점. 다른 백화점이 보이진 않아서 아쉽다.

담광장(Dam Square)이라는 곳이다. 암스테르담의 모든 길은 담 광장으로 통하며 암스테르담 중앙역에서 걸어서 5분 거리에 위치한다. 원래는 암스테르담 중심부를 흐르는 암스텔강의 둑이 파손되었을 경우 도시가 잠기는 것을 막기 위해 13세기에 만들어졌다. 지금은 왕궁, 신교회, 아주 높은 전쟁기념탑, 세계적으로 유명한 마담 튀소(Madame Tussaud)의 밀랍인형 박물관 등이 주변에 세워져 있다. 거리의 예술가들과 60년대에 유명했던 담광장 히피들(Dam Square Hippies), 많은 카페들로 인해 암스테르담에서 가장 많은 여행객들이 방문하는 명소가 되었다. 특히 일요일 오후는 정말 사람이 많아서 발디딜 틈도 없다. 이 곳을 이틀째 지나 다니고 있는데, 하룻밤 사이에 놀이기구가 생겨버렸다. 내 눈이 휘둥그레질 수 밖에 없었다.

칼베르거리(Kalverstraat)는 젊음과 쇼핑이 있는 곳이다. 이 거리에 고가에서 중,저가 브랜드까지 다양하게 배치되어 있어 쇼핑을 좋아하는 나에겐 그냥 지나칠 수 없었다. H&M과 ZARA에서 간단히 하나씩 지르는 정도로 마무릴 지었다.
